ADOPTION PROCESS / FEES / POLICIES

Below is a list of our policies. Our policies are fairly common requirements and standards for any reputable rescue organization. Please keep in mind that requirements may vary from dog to dog and that all decisions as to the placement of our boxers is solely made by the MIBR director and those decisions are final.
  • You must submit a completed application

  • Home visits are required, the applicant will be notified of approval or disapproval.

  • Our adoption fees range from $350 to $400.

  • Dogs are placed as indoor dogs only.

  • We check all references; this includes vet and personal references.

  • Dogs are typically placed in homes with fenced yards but this requirement is based on each
individual dog. Absolutely no invisible fences, shock/vibration collars, choke chains or pinch/prong collars.

  • All of our dogs are spayed/neutered and fully vetted prior to placement.

  • Adopters are required to keep dogs current on vetting and shots. MIBR may do vetting follow-ups for the dog’s lifetime to ensure that adopters are fulfilling this requirement.

  • Adopters are required to give dogs a monthly heartworm preventative year round and MIBR may check with your vet to ensure adopters are fulfilling this requirement.

  • Our dogs are typically placed with dogs of the opposite sex. We do not place females with females at all. There are no exceptions to this.

  • Our dogs will not be placed in homes with unaltered dogs.

  • Adopters are required to feed dogs high-quality dog food.

  • Dogs may require training or obedience classes.

  • Adoption contracts must be signed and payment in full in the form of a check or money order prior to placement of dogs.

  • Adopters agree that if anything should ever happen where the dog must be rehomed the dog must be returned to Mid Iowa Boxer Rescue.

Mid Iowa Boxer Rescue is an Iowa based rescue. We do not have a shelter or facility. Our boxers are placed in foster homes located all over the state of Iowa. All adopters must complete our adoption application and have completed your home visit before our volunteers will talk with you about which of our boxers will be the best fit for you.

We must emphasize that its important for adopters to be open to rescuing and adopting the best fitting dog for your home and family. We do take requests into consideration, however, your requested boxer’s needs and personality might not be a fit for your home. We strive for placements that are best for everyone and best for our Boxer. Once determinations have been made, per MIBR conditions,  arrangements can be made for adopters to meet their new Boxer. It is however our general practice for new adopters an adoptees to meet the day of delivery. MIBR arranges transportation from foster home to adoptive home.

It takes time to adopt from a licensed and qualified rescue organization. We know this can be frustrating to our potential adopters but we mohave procedures to follow. Everyone in our organization is a volunteer and we all work full time jobs and we all have homes, families and animals of our own.
All of the dogs that enter our rescue are placed in foster homes and placed on a ten day hold before they can be adopted. Our foster homes can then assess and evaluate each dogs needs and personalities. At which time we also address veterinarian needs.

We do our best to make the adoption process go as quickly as we can but on average it takes about 3 weeks to complete the adoption process. If you are looking to adopt a dog in less than 3 weeks we probably will not be able to accommodate you.
