ABOUT US
Mid‐Iowa Boxer Rescue, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was formed in 2007. We work closely with many small shelters throughout Iowa to save Boxers. Many dogs come to us untrained and in need of medical care. The dogs are taught proper manners and nurtured back to good health in foster homes.
All pets available for adoption are up to date on shots and spayed or neutered. The only exception would be very young puppies and/or medically compromised adults.
We will always take an adopted dog back into our program if your situation changes, but we ask you to think carefully before adding a new member to your family and require that all adults in the home agree to the process.

Molly
ADOPTED!
Oh, Hi! I see you are checking for boxers. I was waiting for you! I'm needing a new snuggle partner. A bit about me: I'm 2 yrs old, a girlie, girl who wants to be an only child also who isn't into toys much but if you run after me in the backyard, I love to run & chase. I like my Palace....um/kennel/bed - it's where I get my beauty sleep every night. I really enjoy showing off around the neighborhood. You know, strut my stuff on our walks. So, you do walk, right? I'm beautiful, don't you think? My friends at Mid Iowa Boxer rescue are helping me find a new human to love and snuggle with. It could be you, if you fill out an application. Can't wait to meet you! 🐾
ADOPTED!
Zoey
ADOPTED!
Old, who called me old?? I'm only 6 yrs & 4 days old but I don't have that many toes to show you. I can't understand furKIDS these days. Play, bark, run, wrestle....that's not for me! I'm more into Couch Queen Zoey and Cuddle Princess Zoey with just you and me watching Hallmark movies! I like being the only animal & center of your affection/attention. I will go walking with you but only if we are picking up a new movie at the Redbox. I really prefer a quiet, peaceful, calm, relaxing....aahh type of home. Nothing fancy, except the couch. That needs to be soft!! If you have a soft couch, here is the application. 🐾 I'll wait, but don't be too long since I'm 6 yrs and 4 days, just sayin'.

THE GIRLS
ADOPTED!
The girls are ready ( 6.5 months old)! Mid Iowa Boxer has 2 girls who are ready for their new homes. They will be adopted separately. They are both deaf, however that doesn't slow down their ability to have fun, to play, cuddle & give love. Some little facts about deaf dogs. They pay attention to their owners more for their cues on what to do. They bond with their owners quickly & strongly. They sleep soundly. They learn differently. They communicate by body language. They play rough because they can't hear warning growls. Deaf dogs give more of themselves to you because they depend on you more. Applications will be thoroughly checked for these girls. Here are the requirements: must have a fenced yard- no invisible fences, must have another dog who can be their ears & help them learn, & a committed owner who will take the time to train them in sign language or similar gestures. These girls are very energetic & still growing. The collage of pictures are some puppy shots. Here is what you need to be prepared for: they are still working on housebreaking, they need leash training, they need greeting manners for both dogs and people, they'll need lots of patience and love! Please consider all of the above before applying. If you have read this far and meet the requirements, click the link below for the application. Questions like how are they with cats are just plain silly. They are puppies and will act like puppies. 🐾

ADOPTED!
This sweet girl is Honey. She is 5 years old and a complete sweetheart. She is very active and a bit much with very young children. She loves them but knocks them down! Older children would be best. She gets along with other dogs and is doing well in her foster home. She is learning how to be calmer but has a ways to go. She needs love and attention. Recently spayed she needs a few days to recover and then she will be available.

Harley Quinn will be 3 in September. She was not getting along with the other dogs in her previous home but was unspayed and had surging hormones. She is still a bit active for toddlers and must have a fenced yard.

Gunther
ADOPTED!
Meet Gunther! A nine-year-old sweetheart! Gunther is fully house trained and very calm. He enjoys car rides and walks! He will love on everyone from young to the most experienced. ADOPTED!
Gigi
ADOPTED!
Gigi, short for good girl, was an emaciated stray. Approximately 2 years old she is a sweetheart! 🐾 We don't know what happened or why she was on the run but it was clear she had been living on her own and fighting for survival for some time before animal control found her. She loved people from day one and gave kisses all day long but she was terribly defensive around other dogs. Just a few short weeks has made a tremendous difference. Gigi has gained in confidence as well as weight. She can now play with her foster siblings. She has been spayed and is up to date on shots and ready for a forever home. She could be ok as an only dog but also should be able to live with a calm male dog after very slow introductions. Please consider giving this beautiful home the furever after she deserves!

ADOPTION SUCCESS STORY!
Harley
She came into rescue at 10 months with no training and spent two months in foster learning how to be a great girl. She was adopted by the perfect family. A Mom home all the time. Two teen humans and a dog named Rocky to play with.
Here she is watching out the window as her "kids" get on the bus and looking at her new brother Rocky to see what trouble they can get into!
FOSTER FAILURE SUCCESS STORY!
JJ
This is a foster failure success story. Katie had just lost her boxer girl Babe and was not looking to adopt until spring but JJ was desperate for a foster and... love happened! He fit into her life like a glove and she decided that he was home forever. Just look at that happy face!
FOSTER FAILURE SUCCESS STORY!
Lulu
Lulu was one of three girls that came in to rescue from the same home. We couldn't keep them together but managed to find great homes for all of them. Lulu's foster was looking for a calm quiet girl who could learn to be a therapy dog. Lulu was just what she needed. She was terribly skinny and has filled out wonderfully with love and TLC!
FOSTER FAILURE SUCCESS STORY!
Rebel
Rebel (the second of the three) is a sweet 2-year-old girl who was confused at all the changes in her life. She was quiet and shy, as an only dog in her first foster, but when they had to leave town she went to a different foster with two dogs and really blossomed. This family fell in love with her and made it official. Happy ever after little Rebel!
FOSTER FAILURE SUCCESS STORY!
Panda
This little girl is black & white like a Panda. The third of the three girls who came in to rescue from the same home, she didn't last as long as a foster. Her family knew almost immediately that she was meant to stay forever. She is proud to have a fuzzy kitten as her new best friend. Panda has a full tummy and a warm bed to sleep in every night. Sleep tight sweetie!
FOSTER FAILURE SUCCESS STORY!
Duke
Duke was a challenge from day one. Abandoned at a shelter, he was a wild boy who wouldn't let people get near him. Fostered originally by an experienced boxer couple he was in and out of trouble. They really loved him but he was a handful and was labeled aggressive after jumping the fence and chasing a small dog, causing that dog's owner to fall. The powers-that-be declared he had to go. Long-time boxer breeder and show person Val & husband Jeff stepped up to the plate to help tame this wild boy. Duke is reformed! His new best friend is their Frenchie and he will have a happy furever after. Win-Win!
Whenakai
ADOPTED!
Our latest boy is Whenakai (I know! What a weird name!) He is about 18 month. He was in a shelter for several of those months and learned very little while he was there! He is very smart and full of energy. He gets along great with other dogs but might chase a cat or small animal. He is learning about house training and how to behave but still has a ways to go. He needs someone dedicated to helping him be the best boxer he can be. A fenced yard is a must. Someone with the time and patience to work with him is also a must.
ADOPTED!
Smalls
ADOPTED!
Meet Smalls!! Smalls is looking for a home that can be his ears because his ears don’t work. He is deaf from birth but has no other health conditions. He is currently in a foster home that is teaching him signs. He is quite smart but is stubborn when he doesn’t get his way. He rings bells at the door when he has to go outside to potty. Smalls has learned to stay out of the kitchen during meal prep and eating.
He LOVES older children (12 and older) but has a bit too much energy for very young children. He walks well with a harness/leash. He loves to cuddle, is a foot warmer but high energy when it comes to playtime. He LOVES puzzle games, dissecting stuffies, tug toys, running and enrichment activities. This amazing boy would enjoy a calm but playful boxer sibling. A fenced yard is required for this guy to keep him safe. He does well in a crate for short periods. Smalls has a possible chicken allergy. If you have deaf dog experience or are willing to learn how to care for a deaf dog, please consider adopting this awesome 2-year-old boy.
ADOPTED!
Roxie
ADOPTED!
My name is Roxie. I love to get up with my foster family and have breakfast with the boys. Next I like to go out and do my daily duties. I will go back and forth before I find just the perfect spot. Then I come in the house and wish my foster family off to school and work. I sleep in my fosters bed all day as I await their return at lunch time. I usually go outside and go potty and maybe eat some grass. I do sleep in bed with my fosters all night.
Things I enjoy doing...playing fetch, tug a war with my ropes, eating ice cubes, belly rubs are my favorite!!! I love to roll around on my back to get those itches you just can't reach. I absolutely love my foster boys who are 4 and 9, they hug and love on me and I tolerate it very well. I am able to sit, shake, stay and lay down. I enjoy treats for doing these things.
Things I need....a loving home where I am the only animal. It would be best if I had a yard with a fence so I can run and play off-leash, a wood fence would be ideal as I am fearful of other dogs and this can cause me distress. I listen well, however lose focus when other animals are near. I will attack for self defense, therefore I benefit from my harness and leash at all times when I am outdoors and may come in contact with another animal. If I go for a walk, I feel most comfortable being at least 20 feet or greater from other animals. If I get closer than that my hair on my back will stand up and you will know I am fearful. I may also even snort and growl.
I do not have accidents in the house. If I am whining, most likely I need to go outside. There have been times I have had an upset tummy, but whined to my fosters and made it outdoors.
I will need to enter the Vet where there are no other animals around. I have not been kenneled, it may cause me a little fear and distress. I do not get into anything or chew items that are not mine.
My ideal home would be a home that I would not have any outdoor stimuli from other animals. Children would be an added plus, but I would just like someone to love me and keep me safe.

Tubby
ADOPTED!
Tubby is a Boxer Am Bulldog mix. He is a big boy and 4 years old. He knows sit, shake and is well housetrained. He loves to walk and walks well with a harness. He is a bit slow to warm up to new people but once he does he is just a big lap dog. He would do best with an older female dog in the home.
ADOPTED!
Sky & Shadow
ADOPTED!
Sky, 3-years-old and Shadow, 1-year-old. They are a mother and daughter bonded pair. Both girls are very sweet. Both are reliable in the house, spayed and up to date on all shots. Sky is a typical energetic puppy who is still learning. Sky is well behaved but is very protective of Shadow. Slow introductions are a must! If you want this boxer wonderfulness as part of your family, fill out an application for both of us (we are a package deal. :-)
ADOPTED!
Reba & Zane
ADOPTED!
Double Boxer Love! Mid Iowa Boxer Rescue has a bonded pair of sweeties! Meet Reba and Zane! They are bonded and need to be adopted together. Both are kennel trained. both are housebroken, both are older kid-friendly & dog friendly with proper introductions, both know come/sit/stay, love car adventures. They are 3 yrs old (but not littermates) and are up to date on their vaccinations, spayed/neutered. They will chase small animals.
Reba is the larger one. I'm styling in the mint green/ pink sweater. I love my people & snuggles from/with them. I'm a bit of a "talker" & I'm sure everyone walking by is here to see me. I also know what outside potty means and will run to the door. I love to play with my brother & with people. I'm a licker & show my affection to my humans by "cleaning" exposed skin. I call myself a "hygiene helper". I tend to steal toys from Zane & sometimes we have "discussions" over toys...that's what siblings do! You can help me manage that by monitoring us when new toys are introduced to us.
Zane is the one with white feet, a little smaller but buff! I'm high energy but have a tender, sensitive side. I have the peach/grey sweater on. (3rd <naked> boxer in the picture is our foster brother.) I have a different past than Reba & when I became her brother, she helped me get over some bad stuff. I love to play with toys & respectful kids, I love to run, snuggling, hiding my toys (all toys are mine) in my blankets, & I love, love activity with my people. I'm also known as the toy Doctor who performs "surgery" on my toys, however, I'm not good at stitching them back up. I need frequent outside breaks or I can have an oops! I'm a slow eater. Sometimes I sleep with Reba but prefer to have my own bed near her. A fenced yard is a must for us as we get zoomies & forget about safety. So what do you think?? Aren't we the greatest!! We love our foster family & know there is a family out there who will love both of us just like they do.
ADOPTED!
Harley
ADOPTED!
Harley is hoping for a family of her own for Christmas. She is about 4 and is a wonderful girl. Gets along with her 3 foster boxer brothers and is housebroken. No cats! Has to have a physical fence yard. She is a sweetheart!
If you are interested in Harley or any of our boxers, please fill out an application. We do require physical fencing for most of our dogs. It is also our policy not to adopt girls together. It just works better to have one of each!
ADOPTED!
Sugar Ray
ADOPTED!
Hi, my name is SUGAR RAY…I'm a smart boy, love to play, but I have manners. I don't always know my own strength, so young ones aware. I know to use the outside for my business. I get along with the neighbor dogs where I'm hanging out right now. A fenced yard would be ideal because I love to run. I sit like a human in any old chair, but I'm up for good snuggles and will keep you warm in bed.
Sugar Ray is available for adoption through Mid Iowa Boxer Rescue. He is 1 ½ years old, neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and ready to be part of your family.

Layla
ADOPTED!
Hi, my name is Layla and I’m looking for my furever home. I’m a female and I have been spade and I am up to date on all my shots. I am heart-worm negative. I am told I am about 2 years old and FULL of energy. I sit on request and will shake, but make it quick, love a lap and cuddling. I am house broke and will let you know if I need to go out. When I doggy wrestle, I’m told I get a little intense and loud and get a little rough.
I love kids, but when I’m excited you’re home, I wouldn’t suggest young children. My foster dad says I shouldn’t chase squirrels and kitty’s in the yard and be nicer on walks.
